GIS alerts and GIF notices: 18 product safety cases

GIS alerts and GIF notices: THC in supplements, Listeria in salmon, STEC in apricots and olives, unsafe lamps and child seat. See full list and advice.

Between 18.05.2026 and 24.05.2026 the Polish market surveillance authorities published 18 safety alerts concerning products available in Poland. The most serious GIS alerts related to food contamination with Listeria monocytogenes and the presence of THC in Green Out food supplements. At the same time, warnings were issued about defective ceiling lamps sold in particular via the Temu platform and an unsafe rear bicycle child seat.

According to GIS notices and RASFF notifications, food safety is at risk in several categories – from salmon spread to dried apricots and green olives in which DNA of verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) was detected. GIF notices focused on the quality of two medicinal products – Depo-Medrol and Envil gardło – which is important for thousands of patients using anti-inflammatory therapy and throat sprays.

As UOKiK reports, in the framework of the EU Safety Gate system UOKiK warnings were also published for perfumes containing the banned substance BMHCA, the Bellelli rear bicycle child seat and three models of ceiling lamps posing an electric-shock risk. In this weekly overview we summarise all alerts, explain why the hazards are dangerous and outline what consumers should do if they may have these products at home.

Najważniejsze informacje

  • The 18 alerts cover 4 food products, 8 supplements and medicines, and 6 cosmetics and other consumer items.
  • Two notices are classified as critical (Suempol salmon spread and Depo-Medrol), the others are described as high, medium or low risk.
  • The detected hazards include Listeria monocytogenes, STEC, THC, out-of-specification active substances in medicines, as well as risks of electric shock and mechanical injuries.
  • Many warnings – including GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings – concern products sold online via e-commerce platforms and webshops.

Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

The Suempol salmon in cream – GIS decision due to Listeria monocytogenes – is one of this year's most serious cases related to food safety. Listeria can multiply in refrigerated conditions and may cause listeriosis, which is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, older people and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhoea, muscle pain and, in severe cases, meningitis and sepsis.

The Green Out supplements from the Fresh Bomb and Sour Bears lines were reported to GIS because of the illegal presence of THC. Unlike authorised medicinal cannabis products, these supplements are not standardised or controlled as medicines. THC can cause impaired consciousness, anxiety, hypotension and coordination disorders, and in combination with alcohol or other drugs it can lead to unpredictable reactions. Sweet formats such as gummies and flavoured liquids may be especially attractive to teenagers, increasing the risk of accidental or excessive intake.

In the dried apricots and green olives covered by RASFF notifications, specific DNA of verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) was detected. Although these notices do not automatically mean that products are removed from the market, GIS stresses that a zero-tolerance policy applies to STEC in ready-to-eat food. Infection may lead to bloody diarrhoea, severe abdominal pain, vomiting and haemolytic uremic syndrome, which can permanently damage the kidneys.

The GIF notices on Depo-Medrol and Envil gardło highlight how important medicine stability is. Excess free methylprednisolone can change the activity profile of this corticosteroid, increasing the risk of adverse effects such as hormonal disturbances, elevated blood pressure and reduced immunity. Too low ethanol content in Envil gardło may reduce its antiseptic efficacy. In both cases patients cannot be sure about the actual dose and safety of the therapy.

UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications about cosmetics containing BMHCA and unsafe electrical products are also relevant to health protection. 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde has been banned from cosmetics in the EU because of its documented reproductive toxicity and potential harm to the unborn child, as well as its sensitising effect on the skin. Incorrectly earthed ceiling lamps, on the other hand, pose a direct risk of electric shock when touching the metal housing.

GIS warns consumers not to eat products from batch L20261 of Suempol salmon in cream because of the risk of Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers should also avoid using Green Out supplements from the Fresh Bomb and Sour Bears series in which THC has been detected.

In most cases the notices do not name individual retail chains, which means that the products may have reached a wide range of grocery shops, wholesalers and catering outlets. Suempol is a major fish producer in Poland, so its salmon spread is likely to have been sold in both large supermarkets and smaller food stores. From a food safety perspective, GIS recommends that consumers carefully check batch numbers and best-before dates on the packaging.

Depo-Medrol and Envil gardło are distributed via pharmacies and healthcare facilities. In line with the GIF decisions, the affected batches are being removed from wholesale and retail circulation and pharmacies are obliged to quarantine them. UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications for the child seat and ceiling lamps indicate mainly online distribution, in particular via the Temu marketplace. Users of such platforms should regularly monitor GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings published on the authorities' official websites.

Porady dla konsumentów

If you identify any of the products described here in your home, first check the batch number, expiry date and manufacturer. This is especially important for the salmon spread (batches L20261-22 and L20261), Green Out supplements and the medicinal products Depo-Medrol and Envil gardło. Products that are subject to recall or official safety alerts should be immediately separated from other foodstuffs and items.

  • Do not eat products covered by GIS alerts, even if they look and smell normal.
  • Do not continue to use medicines affected by GIF decisions on your own – consult your doctor or pharmacist about alternative therapy.
  • Stop using unsafe products (lamps, child seat, cosmetics) and contact the seller to arrange a refund or replacement.
  • If you experience symptoms of food poisoning, allergic reaction or any other worrying signs after consuming or using one of the products, seek medical advice without delay.

Under Polish consumer law you have the right to return a defective or unsafe product to the place of purchase. For food and other goods that are officially withdrawn from sale, retailers should accept the product and refund the purchase price even without a receipt, provided the purchase can be credibly demonstrated. It is helpful to refer to specific GIS alerts, GIF notices or UOKiK warnings and, if necessary, print them from the authorities' websites.

If you have eaten food potentially contaminated with Listeria or STEC and develop symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, abdominal pain or vomiting, contact your doctor and inform them about the suspected source of infection. This allows more targeted diagnostic testing and helps the sanitary inspectorate monitor food safety in your area.

Kontekst prawny

The Polish product-safety alert system is based on cooperation between several authorities. GIS alerts in the field of food and food supplements are issued under EU Regulation 178/2002 and the national Food and Nutrition Safety Act. GIF notices covering medicinal products are based on the Pharmaceutical Law and may include decisions to withdraw batches from the market, suspend their distribution or prohibit further marketing.

UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications apply to non-food consumer products – toys, cosmetics, electrical appliances – and implement the EU general product safety requirements. Products that are withdrawn from the market must be removed from shop shelves and warehouses, and businesses are obliged to inform consumers about the risk, for example through announcements on their websites. For consumers it is crucial to follow official communications on a regular basis and to report any suspicion that a product may pose a risk to health or life to UOKiK or the sanitary inspectorate.
