Wprowadzenie

In the period 25.05.2026 - 31.05.2026, Polish and EU supervisory authorities published 12 alerts concerning the safety of products available on the Polish market. These included GIS alerts related to food safety and dietary supplements, GIF notices on medicinal product quality, as well as UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications on dangerous toys and electrical equipment. The most serious hazards involve the presence of Salmonella spp., exceeded levels of ochratoxin A, pesticide residues, and serious design defects in children’s products.

According to GIS communications, food safety remains a top priority, including for dried fruit, spices and poultry meat. GIF has suspended the marketing of all batches of the antibiotic Teikoplanina BRADEX due to quality non‑compliance of the intravenous solution. As UOKiK reports, several Safety Gate entries concern toys that pose choking and injury risks, as well as a ceiling lamp with an electric shock hazard. GIS warns against consuming products from batch L:26/062P of the Verdin Fix supplement because of the risk of Salmonella spp. These alerts show how crucial it is to continuously monitor supply chains and react quickly to emerging threats.

Najważniejsze informacje

  • Two critical alerts concern: the Verdin Fix dietary supplement (Salmonella spp.) and the antibiotic Teikoplanina BRADEX (marketing suspension by GIF).
  • Food safety is threatened by salmonella in chicken hindquarters and in a supplement, ochratoxin A in dried figs and sweet pepper, and pesticide residues in kale.
  • UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications cover dangerous toys (ENERO scooter, Spider Man bow, TEDi Pizza set) and a ceiling lamp with electric shock risk.
  • Retail chains Auchan and Selgros issued their own communications on selected batches of supplements and nuts – these products have been withdrawn from sale.
  • Consumers should check batch numbers, EAN codes and, in case of doubt, contact Sanepid, their GP or the point of purchase.

Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

Looking across this week’s GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings, it is clear that both food safety and product safety require constant attention. The presence of Salmonella spp. in the Verdin Fix supplement and in chicken hindquarters represents a high risk of acute foodborne illness. Typical symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting; in young children, older people and immunocompromised patients the infection may lead to dehydration and hospitalisation.

Elevated levels of ochratoxin A in dried figs and dried sweet pepper are another major issue for food safety. Ochratoxin A, as assessed by EFSA and regulated under Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006, is a mycotoxin with nephrotoxic and potentially carcinogenic properties. Long-term exposure, even at seemingly low doses, may contribute to kidney damage and increase the risk of gastrointestinal cancers.

In bunch kale, residues of the pesticide flonicamid exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL) set in Regulation (EC) No 396/2005. A single exposure is unlikely to cause acute symptoms, but repeated intake of pesticides may adversely affect the nervous system and liver and contribute to general malaise. Similarly, potential microbiological contamination of the VERDIN Fix herbal tea can cause gastrointestinal infections in vulnerable consumers.

Teikoplanina BRADEX, a glycopeptide antibiotic used in severe infections, must meet the highest pharmaceutical quality standards. GIF’s decision to suspend the marketing of all batches because of subvisible particles in the intravenous solution aims to prevent complications such as phlebitis, embolic events or hypersensitivity reactions. At the same time, UOKiK’s warnings about unsafe toys and the ceiling lamp illustrate that mechanical hazards (choking, eye injuries, falls) and electric shock risks are as important as classical microbiological risks in the broader field of consumer protection. GIF has suspended all batches of Teikoplanina BRADEX until its full quality and safety are confirmed.

This week’s alerts involve both large retail chains and manufacturers or distributors operating in the background. Auchan issued a store notice concerning batch L:26/062P of VERDIN Fix herbal tea, while Selgros, via Transgourmet Polska, reported the withdrawal of KRESTO Select walnuts contaminated with storage pests. These products are no longer available on shelves, and customers can return them at the points of sale.

According to GIS, several alerts concern food without indicating a specific retailer – for example dried figs, dried sweet pepper, kale and chicken hindquarters. These alerts apply to the entire distribution chain, from wholesalers to small shops. GIF’s decisions focus on professional use (hospitals, hospital pharmacies), whereas UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications cover toys and the lamp that may have been sold in various brick‑and‑mortar and online outlets. Consumers who are unsure whether their purchase is affected should contact the retailer’s customer service or consult up‑to‑date GIS alerts and UOKiK warnings on the authorities’ websites.

Porady dla konsumentów

If you own any of the products described, first check the exact name, batch number and durability date, and for toys the model identification (e.g. ENERO scooter WX-3-IN-1, lamp APP748-4C, Spider Man bow batch 2300298). For items that have been withdrawn from sale, you should stop using or consuming them immediately. They can usually be returned to the point of purchase; in practice, sellers often accept recalled items even without a receipt, although it is advisable to keep it if available.

For food covered by GIS alerts, the key issue is food safety in your kitchen. Products in which salmonella or excessive levels of mycotoxins have been confirmed should be discarded straight away, and any surfaces or utensils that came into contact with them should be thoroughly washed with warm water and detergent. If, after consuming any of the products, you experience symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever or severe weakness, contact your family doctor or an emergency department and mention the possible source of infection.

In the case of Teikoplanina BRADEX, the GIF marketing suspension mainly concerns hospitals and healthcare providers – patients should not stop therapy on their own but should discuss any concerns with their treating physician. Parents who bought toys covered by UOKiK warnings should remove them from their children’s reach immediately and contact the store about a refund or replacement. UOKiK, through the Safety Gate system, highlights a growing number of reports on unsafe toys, so regularly checking new alerts is an important part of protecting safety at home.

Kontekst prawny

The alert system for food and product safety in Poland is based on both national and EU law. GIS operates under the Polish Food and Nutrition Safety Act and the General Food Law Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, while information on dangerous food is also shared through the EU RASFF system. This allows affected batches and products to be rapidly traced across the EU. In the field of toys and electrical equipment, the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC, the Low Voltage Directive and the General Product Safety rules apply, with UOKiK responsible for market surveillance in Poland.

GIF, acting under the Pharmaceutical Law, may order the suspension, withdrawal or prohibition of marketing of a medicinal product if there are doubts about its quality, efficacy or safety. Consumers are entitled to full information about risks and to a refund for unsafe products. Under the Consumer Rights Act, businesses must promptly remove dangerous products from the market and cooperate with authorities by issuing clear notices and conducting recall campaigns. GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings together form a complementary system designed to protect public health and ensure that serious hazards are addressed as quickly as possible.
