GIS alerts and GIF notices: 14 safety warnings on metals, PFOA and defective medicines in Poland. Check the full list and protect your health. Right now.

Introduction

Between 23 March 2026 and 29 March 2026 the Polish market surveillance authorities published 14 safety alerts concerning products available in Poland. The list includes GIS alerts related to food-contact materials, GIF notices on defective medicinal products, as well as UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications covering clothing, kitchen accessories and other consumer goods.

The most serious GIF notices concern the contrast media Omnipaque and Visipaque, where metal particle contamination of the injectable solution poses a direct life-threatening risk for patients. GIS, in turn, warns against Flying Tiger drinking glasses with fruit and heart motifs, from whose rims lead and cadmium can migrate into beverages. UOKiK and retail chains (KiK, Sinsay, Decathlon) report chemical and mechanical hazards linked to clothing, jewellery, car rims and electrical equipment.

Although this week no classic microbiological food hazards were reported, GIS alerts on drinking glasses remain highly relevant for overall food safety at home. Below we present a structured overview of withdrawals from sale, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings, together with practical advice for consumers.

Key points

  • A total of 14 notices were published: 11 product withdrawals from sale and 3 GIF communications on medicinal products.
  • The most serious risks are metal particle contamination of contrast media, lead and cadmium migration from Flying Tiger glasses, and the presence of PFOA in KiK clothing and gloves.
  • UOKiK and retail chains report mechanical failure risks for Dezent TV rims, insufficient visibility of the Decathlon rain jacket and electric shock risk from the Happet aquarium lamp.
  • The GIF notice on Jaxteran highlights a reduced active substance dose in some capsules, which may decrease the effectiveness of multiple sclerosis therapy.
  • GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings underline the need to check household stocks regularly and remove potentially unsafe or withdrawn products.

Health risk analysis

The GIF notices concerning the contrast media Omnipaque and Visipaque point to an exceptionally serious clinical risk. Injection of a solution containing metal particles can lead to vascular embolism, local inflammatory reactions, tissue damage and severe systemic reactions, including life-threatening thromboembolic complications. For this reason GIF decisions to withdraw specific batches and prohibit further marketing are crucial for patient protection.

In the case of Flying Tiger glasses, GIS emphasises that exceeding the permissible migration of lead and cadmium from the rim area may cause chronic exposure to heavy metals. Lead adversely affects the nervous system, children's cognitive development and the haematopoietic system, while cadmium accumulates in the kidneys and bones, increasing the risk of kidney failure and osteoporosis. These GIS alerts are directly linked to the safety of foods and drinks consumed every day.

The Sinsay jewellery with excessive cadmium content and the KiK clothing and gloves containing PFOA illustrate risks arising from skin contact with toxic substances. Cadmium and PFOA can accumulate in the body, potentially increasing the risk of organ damage, endocrine disruption and some cancers. The Happet aquarium lamp with electric shock risk and the Dezent TV rims with a risk of cracking are examples of mechanical and electrical hazards that UOKiK regularly highlights in its product safety warnings.

Although there were no cases this week of salmonella, listeria or undeclared allergens, which directly threaten food safety, consumers should remember that the surveillance system is based on continuous monitoring of both food and food-contact materials. Following GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings helps households respond faster to emerging health risks.

Retailers and institutions involved

Among the retail chains affected by product withdrawals are Flying Tiger (five glass models), Sinsay (rings), Decathlon (rain jacket) and KiK (softshell jacket and ski gloves). Products withdrawn from these stores should be removed from use without delay, and customers can normally return them in line with the information provided in retailer notices.

The medicinal products Jaxteran, Omnipaque and Visipaque are subject to GIF decisions addressed to marketing authorisation holders, wholesalers and pharmacies. Patients should not discontinue treatment on their own; in case of doubt they should contact their doctor or pharmacist, who will be familiar with the details of current GIF notices. UOKiK, acting as the national contact point for the Safety Gate system, also publishes information on products such as the aquarium lamp or car rims, ensuring wide dissemination of information on dangerous goods.

Consumer advice

If you have any of the products described at home, first of all stop using them. For Flying Tiger glasses, the safest solution is to stop using them for beverages entirely, especially for drinks served to children. Jewellery with excessive cadmium content and clothing or gloves containing PFOA should be removed from everyday use to limit chronic exposure to toxic substances.

Products withdrawn from retail chains can usually be returned in-store or by post, often even without a receipt, on the basis of the batch number or purchase date. It is worth following product safety warnings and information published by retailers and UOKiK in order to know the exact return conditions. For electrical products such as the aquarium lamp, do not attempt to repair them yourself or continue using them.

If you have taken a medicine from a batch covered by a GIF notice (Jaxteran, Omnipaque, Visipaque), do not interrupt therapy on your own. Contact your treating physician or pharmacist, providing the batch number and dates of use. In the event of alarming symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, neurological signs or sudden allergic reactions, seek immediate medical attention or go to an emergency department.

Regulatory context

The market surveillance system in Poland is based on national legislation and European Union regulations. In the field of food safety, Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 is key, obliging food business operators to withdraw foodstuffs and food-contact materials from the market if they may pose a health risk. GIS alerts on products such as Flying Tiger glasses form part of this early warning system.

For medicinal products, the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF) issues notices under the Pharmaceutical Law and Directive 2001/83/EC. Decisions to withdraw certain batches from the market or prohibit their placing on the market are intended to interrupt distribution of potentially dangerous medicines as quickly as possible. UOKiK warnings and notifications published via the Safety Gate system (formerly RAPEX) concern the general safety of consumer products, including clothing, toys and electrical equipment.

Consumers are entitled to safe products, full information on risks, and refund or replacement of goods that do not meet safety requirements. Regularly following official communications – such as GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings – is an important part of managing health and safety for you and your family.
