Introduction
In the period 27.04.2026 - 03.05.2026, Polish market surveillance authorities published 10 alerts covering various product categories. These recalled products include contaminated food, food supplements with excessive levels of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, and LED lighting posing a risk of electric shock. According to notices from the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS), the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) and entries in the EU Safety Gate system, several of these non-compliances represent a serious threat to health and life.
The most worrying recalled products are from the food and beverages category – poultry meat contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and melissa leaves with Salmonella spp., both directly affecting food safety. Equally concerning are Ashwagandha-based supplements in which maximum residue levels for pesticides have been exceeded. In addition, several batches of LED lighting and stress-relief accessories have been found potentially unsafe for users.
This weekly digest is intended to help consumers quickly identify recalled products, check batch numbers and take appropriate protective action. The information is based on official GIS alerts, UOKiK communications and Safety Gate notifications, which increases reliability and allows a better assessment of the actual risk.

Key recalled products – featured cards
DUDA mild breaded chicken tenderloins, XXL pack, 540 g
Hazard: According to the GIS alert, Listeria monocytogenes was detected in 3 out of 5 samples of this poultry product. Consumption of contaminated chicken can lead to listeriosis, a serious infection especially dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immunity. Symptoms include fever, diarrhoea and muscle pain, and in severe cases meningitis.

Melissa leaf Kawon, 50 g (batches 169.2026, 117.2026, 257.2026)
Hazard: Official GIS control revealed the presence of Salmonella spp. in one of five samples from the specified batches. Consumption of contaminated herbal raw material, for example as an infusion, may result in food poisoning with diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever and vomiting. Salmonella is particularly dangerous for children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses.

Withania Somnifera Ashwagandha – food supplement in capsules
Hazard: Numerous batches of capsules (including 260226A, 250226A, 261125A, 021025A and others) were found to contain chlorpyrifos at 0.09 mg/kg, exceeding the legal maximum residue level. As highlighted in risk assessments by the National Institute of Public Health, chlorpyrifos is neurotoxic, may affect the nervous system and cause other adverse health effects, especially with long-term exposure.

Ahwagandha Mother’s Protect live herbs, food supplement 50 ml
Hazard: GIS reported residues of the pesticide chlorpyrifos in batches 04112025.A.P1, 04112025.A.P2 and 02122025.A.P3. This organophosphate pesticide can have neurotoxic effects, causing headaches, dizziness and nausea, and at higher doses more severe symptoms of acute poisoning.

Outdoor LED lighting chain ML40
Hazard: As stated in the Safety Gate notification, the product is not adequately protected against moisture, uses undersized wires and features a socket that allows insertion of single-pole plugs. Accessible parts may become live, leading to a high risk of electric shock, serious injuries and even life-threatening incidents.

Health hazard analysis
The recalled products reported this week involve several main categories of hazards: bacterial contamination of food, contamination of supplements with pesticides, and the risk of electric shock from faulty electrical products. According to GIS alerts, the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in poultry meat can cause listeriosis – a serious infection which, in pregnant women, may lead to miscarriage or severe complications in the newborn.
Salmonella spp. detected in melissa leaves is a classic cause of food poisoning. Symptoms usually appear 6–72 hours after ingestion and include diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, fever and vomiting. In vulnerable groups and in cases of dehydration, hospital treatment may be needed. From a food safety perspective, even a single positive sample in a batch of herbal raw material is sufficient to trigger immediate recall.
Chlorpyrifos, found in the Ashwagandha products, is a pesticide with well-documented neurotoxic effects. Long-term exposure, even to relatively low doses, may affect the nervous system, cognitive functions and the development of the nervous system in children. EU legislation therefore sets very low maximum residue levels (MRLs), and any exceedance leads to GIS alerts and withdrawal of the affected lots from the market.
The electrical products – wall lamps and LED chains – pose a different but equally relevant hazard. Lack of proper moisture protection, undersized conductors or unstable terminal blocks can result in live metal parts becoming accessible. The consequences range from electric shock and burns to sudden cardiac arrest in the most severe cases.
Stores affected by the recalls
Some of the notices refer only to specific manufacturers and batch numbers without naming particular retail chains – this applies, for example, to products from CEDROB, Kawon and the Nanga and Mother’s Protect supplements. These recalled products may have been distributed to pharmacies, herbal shops, smaller grocery stores and various online retailers.
Two alerts are directly linked to the Sinsay chain. UOKiK reported the withdrawal of stress-relief accessories with index numbers 683ED-MLC and 681ED-MLC, sold both in brick-and-mortar shops and online. These products have been deemed potentially unsafe and should be removed from use immediately.
Consumers who have purchased any of the items described should carefully check batch numbers, pack sizes and best-before dates against the official recall information. This enables quick identification of recalled products and helps to minimise exposure to risk.
Advice for consumers
If you have any of the products listed above, first compare the batch number, pack weight and best-before date with the details published in GIS and UOKiK communications. If they match, assume that your product is part of the recalled lot. Do not consume or continue using it. In the case of food and supplements, the food safety risk is real – contamination with bacteria or pesticides cannot be detected by taste, smell or appearance.
Recalled products can usually be returned to the point of sale, where the retailer should accept them and refund the purchase price, even without a receipt, provided the product can be clearly identified. It is worth checking the websites of retail chains and the official GIS portal with GIS alerts, where detailed instructions on returns are published.
If you have already consumed a recalled product, monitor your health. In case of symptoms of food poisoning (fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain) or other worrying signs, contact a doctor and mention the potential exposure (salmonella, listeria, pesticides). Pregnant women, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems should be particularly cautious and seek medical advice promptly.
Regulatory context
The recall procedure for unsafe products in Poland is based on EU and national legislation. For food, the key act is Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, the so-called General Food Law, which obliges food business operators to immediately withdraw food that does not comply with safety requirements. GIS publishes alerts and coordinates the work of the sanitary inspection, and, where necessary, notifies the EU Safety Gate system.
For food supplements, GIS is the competent authority, while for medicinal products this role is played by the Main Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF). Toys and consumer goods fall under the EU General Product Safety Regulation and national laws enforced by UOKiK. Consumers are entitled to free-of-charge remedies – returning dangerous products, receiving replacements or a refund. Being aware of these rights and regularly checking information about recalls significantly improves product safety in everyday life.
