GIS alerts and GIF notices 01-07.06.2026: listeria, heavy metals, defective medicines and devices. See the full list and check your home. Act now. Stay safe.

In the period 01.06.2026 - 07.06.2026 the Polish supervisory authorities published 12 alerts on product safety. These included GIS food safety alerts, GIF notices on medicine quality and UOKiK warnings together with Safety Gate notifications regarding electrical equipment and consumer products. The issues range from critical risks of infections and poisoning to high risks of electric shock or head injuries.

The most serious GIS alerts concern the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a ready-to-eat salad, excessive levels of heavy metals in a drinking glass from the KiK chain and elevated perchlorate in a herbal tea. GIF communications highlight problems with sterility, impurities and stability in several important medicines used in children, autoimmune diseases, oncology and glaucoma treatment. UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications cover unsafe extension leads and an air fryer with a fire risk.

This week both food safety and the safety of pharmacotherapy were again in the spotlight. GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings show that consumers should regularly check information from these authorities and verify batch numbers and EAN codes of products they own. Below we present a detailed overview of market withdrawals, notices and suspensions, as well as practical advice on how to respond to such information.

Alert: salad with tuna, egg and cucumber
Tuna salad

Salad with tuna, egg and cucumber, batch 19.06.2026 LZM A5 BN

Hazard: Internal producer testing detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in this ready-to-eat salad. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacterium may lead to listeriosis, ranging from flu-like symptoms and diarrhoea to severe systemic infection in pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. According to the GIS alert the product from this batch should not be eaten and must be removed from the food chain.

Alert: KiK glass drinking cup
KiK glass

Glass drinking cup from KiK

Hazard: Official control found migration of lead and cadmium from the rim of the glass into food, potentially exceeding legal limits for these heavy metals. Long term exposure to lead and cadmium is associated with kidney and liver damage and neurotoxic effects, particularly dangerous for children. In line with the GIS alert this glass should not be used for beverages and must be treated as unsafe food contact material.

Alert: White mulberry herbal tea
White mulberry tea

White mulberry herbal tea 20T, Selgros

Hazard: The affected batches 070725 and 030325 were found to contain perchlorate above the permissible level. Perchlorates can interfere with iodine uptake by the thyroid and thus impair thyroid function, which is particularly important for children, pregnant women and people with thyroid disease. According to the GIS alert this tea from the affected batches should not be consumed; food safety requires its removal from the market.

Alert: GTV extension cord 5 m
GTV 5 m extension

GTV extension cord 5 m, 4 sockets, EAN 5908231301222

Hazard: The plug of the product lacks adequate protection, leaving live parts accessible. A user can accidentally touch energised components and suffer electric shock, with the risk of serious injury or even death. As UOKiK reports through the EU Safety Gate system, the product does not comply with European safety standards for electrical equipment.

Alert: Fouganza 100 riding helmet
Fouganza 100 helmet

NEW HORSE RIDING HELMET 100 Fouganza

Hazard: The strap in front of the ear may slip backwards, reducing the helmet stability and correct fit on the head. In the event of a fall or impact, head protection may no longer be fully guaranteed, increasing the risk of concussion or more serious trauma. Decathlon issued a voluntary corrective action and informed customers about the need to return or exchange the helmet.

Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

According to the GIS alert the tuna, egg and cucumber salad illustrates how serious contamination with Listeria monocytogenes can be. Listeria may cause fever, diarrhoea and muscle pain, and in pregnant women dangerous complications for the foetus including miscarriage or preterm birth. In the elderly and immunocompromised the infection can progress to sepsis or meningitis. In such cases food safety requires the immediate withdrawal of the affected batch.

For the KiK glass, migration of lead and cadmium into drinks means chronic exposure to heavy metals. Lead disrupts the development of the nervous system in children and can impair cognitive function and raise blood pressure in adults. Cadmium accumulates in kidneys and bones, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and renal failure. Similarly, exceeding the permissible level of perchlorate in the white mulberry tea may disturb iodine metabolism and thyroid function, which is critical in pregnancy and childhood.

GIF notices mainly concern risks of infections and lack of therapeutic efficacy. For Tullex and Imuldosa, suspected microbiological contamination or insufficient aseptic technique increases the risk of injecting microorganisms directly into the body, including the bloodstream. This can lead to severe systemic infections, especially in oncology and autoimmune patients. In the case of Travoprost + Timolol Medical Valley, leaking bottles and elevated impurities threaten eye infections and insufficient control of intraocular pressure in glaucoma.

UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications show that everyday products may also be dangerous: extension cords with accessible live parts increase the risk of electric shock, while the TEDi air fryer with overheating risk can cause a household fire. An unstable riding helmet reduces head protection during a fall, which in equestrian sports is crucial for the user health and life.

Among the retail chains affected this week are Decathlon (Fouganza 100 riding helmet), KiK (glass with heavy metal migration) and Selgros, where the white mulberry tea from Malwa was offered. Products from DEGA S.A. with the contaminated salad may be present in various outlets, which is why GIS urges consumers to verify the exact batch code.

Medicine related notices are issued by the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate GIF, which monitors the quality of pharmacy and hospital batches. The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection UOKiK coordinates UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications regarding unsafe non food products such as GTV extension leads or the TEDi fryer. Consumers should regularly check the websites of GIS, GIF and UOKiK and follow safety information published by specific stores and manufacturers.

Porady dla konsumentów

People who may own any of the products described should first check the names, batch numbers and EAN codes listed in GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings. For food items such as the tuna salad or white mulberry tea, it is recommended to immediately stop consumption of the affected batches and either dispose of them safely or return them to the shop, even if no symptoms have appeared yet.

GIS warns against consuming products from batch 19.06.2026 LZM A5 BN because of the risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Anyone who has eaten these foods and experiences gastrointestinal symptoms, fever or other worrying signs should contact a doctor and mention the possible exposure. In suspected heavy metal poisoning or thyroid dysfunction laboratory diagnostics may be necessary.

For medicines GIF stresses that patients should not stop treatment on their own, but instead consult a doctor or pharmacist. The prescriber decides whether the therapy should be adjusted or the product replaced. Medicines covered by GIF decisions can usually be returned to pharmacies. For electrical equipment and protective helmets users should immediately stop using the item and contact the store for information on replacement, repair or refund.

Kontekst prawny

The system of GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings is based on Polish law and European Union regulations, including the General Product Safety Regulation and EU food law. Under these rules every product placed on the market must be safe for health and life, and producers and distributors are obliged to react rapidly if non conformity is detected.

UOKiK emphasises that faulty electrical equipment may not be offered to consumers if it poses a risk of electric shock or fire. Consumers are entitled to a refund or replacement of unsafe goods and to clear information on the reasons for corrective actions. For medicines, GIF decisions such as marketing suspension or prohibition of placing on the market are intended to protect patients from therapy of uncertain quality. Together these mechanisms strengthen food safety, consumer product safety and the safety of pharmacotherapy in Poland.
