In the period 22.06.2026 - 28.06.2026, supervisory authorities published 17 alerts concerning product safety in Poland – from food and supplements, through medicines, to toys and electrical equipment. These included GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK product warnings, many of them shared via the EU Safety Gate and RASFF systems.

The most serious hazards concern contamination of the medicine Apiolin 50 mg with the nitrosamine N-nitroso sertraline, the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in SIMPL bacon, elevated acrylamide in Bonitki Petit Beurre biscuits sold in Biedronka, as well as excessive chlorpyrifos residues in quinoa and high cadmium and DEHP phthalate content in a decorative placemat. In addition, several dangerous toys and electrical appliances were reported, posing risks of electric shock, strangulation or choking. Taken together, these alerts show that the safety of food and everyday products requires constant vigilance from both authorities and consumers.

Komunikat: Apiolin 50 mg
Apiolin 50 mg

Apiolin 50 mg, film-coated tablets

Hazard: This batch was reported due to the risk of exceeding the acceptable daily intake limit for the impurity N-nitroso sertraline (Acceptable intake, AI 100 ng/day) and the temporary limit of 670 ng/day for long-term treatments. Potential effects include a possible increased carcinogenic risk during long-term use of the medicine. According to the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector, the batch 4R04976C has been withdrawn from the market and patients should consult their doctor or pharmacist.

SIMPL bacon 150 g (batch 149)

Hazard: A microbiological non-compliance was detected – presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the specified batch. Listeriosis may present with diarrhoea and fever but in immunocompromised patients, pregnant women and the elderly it can lead to sepsis and meningitis. According to GIS, batch 149 with use-by date 07.08.2026 must not be consumed and has been removed from sale to protect public health.

Bonitki Petit Beurre biscuits 400 g

Hazard: Official testing by the State Sanitary Inspection found an increased level of acrylamide in batch 6104037121 01-10 (best before 13.04.2027). Acrylamide is formed during high-temperature baking and, according to the European Food Safety Authority, long-term intake may increase cancer risk and adversely affect the nervous system. GIS warns against consuming this batch; it is treated as withdrawn from trade as part of national food safety measures.

Tulifun plastic sensory toy

Hazard: The toy's strings are too long and may become wrapped around a child's neck, creating a risk of strangulation during play. This type of hazard is particularly dangerous for small children who cannot free themselves. As UOKiK reports in its Safety Gate product warnings, the toy does not comply with the safety requirements for toys and should be removed from use immediately.

Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

From a health perspective, the main concerns this week are microbiological and chemical contamination of food, supplements and medicines, alongside mechanical and electrical hazards. Listeria monocytogenes detected in SIMPL bacon can cause serious systemic infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns. Salmonella spp. reported in fresh poultry meat is a classic cause of food-borne illness with diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, fever and dehydration risk. This is why GIS alerts related to these pathogens are central to protecting public health.

Chemical risks include both contaminants in food and impurities in medicines. Elevated acrylamide in biscuits and chlorpyrifos residues in quinoa increase neurotoxic and potentially carcinogenic risk with long-term exposure. Excess cadmium and DEHP in the decorative placemat, in breach of the REACH regulation, are associated with kidney and bone damage and reproductive toxicity. In the medicinal product Apiolin, exceeding the limit for the nitrosamine N-nitroso sertraline raises concern about increased cancer risk with years of treatment, fully justifying the stringent GIF notices.

Another group of hazards concerns electrical and mechanical safety. GTV extension leads, the metal lamp and the VIDVIE charger may cause electric shock because of inadequate insulation, missing shielding or improper earthing. The Tulifun toy, Martes Essentials balance bike and TEDi keyring can lead to choking or strangulation in small children due to long cords, small detachable parts or unsafe packaging. UOKiK product warnings, together with Safety Gate notifications, show that authorities monitor not only food safety but the entire spectrum of consumer products used in households.

Several major retail chains and brands are affected by this week’s alerts. Biedronka is named as distributor of Bonitki Petit Beurre biscuits with elevated acrylamide levels, while Carrefour distributes the SIMPL bacon batch contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The TEDi chain is associated with hazardous octopus keyrings, and the Martes Essentials brand with an unsafe balance bike for children.

Food and supplement alerts are coordinated by the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS), which issues national notices and forwards information via the EU RASFF system. For medicines such as Apiolin, the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF) issues binding decisions on withdrawal or suspension when a risk to patients is identified. UOKiK oversees general product safety for toys, electrical goods and plastic articles, and communicates via Safety Gate and national product warnings. Consumers are advised to follow the websites of GIS, GIF and UOKiK, as well as retailer announcements, to stay up to date on safety issues across all product categories.

Porady dla konsumentów

If you recognise any of the products listed, first verify the exact name, batch number, date and EAN code – all key identifiers are given above in the tables and descriptions. For food products that have been withdrawn from sale, such as Bonitki biscuits or SIMPL bacon, do not eat them even if they look and smell normal. Shops are obliged to accept returned withdrawn products and provide a refund or replacement, usually even without a receipt.

Anyone who has eaten potentially contaminated food and develops symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, stomach pain or severe weakness should consult a doctor; in serious cases, hospital care may be required. This is particularly important for young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses. If you are taking Apiolin, do not stop your treatment on your own – contact your prescribing doctor or pharmacist, who will be aware of the official GIF communications and can suggest a safe alternative if needed.

For toys and electrical products, stop using them immediately and do not attempt home repairs. GTV extension leads, the VIDVIE charger, the metal lamp and Tulifun or Martes Essentials toys should be returned to the retailer or permanently removed from use. Never try to fix withdrawn electrical devices yourself, as this can increase the risk of electric shock or fire. If a retailer refuses to accept a return, you can seek help from local consumer ombudsmen or consult UOKiK guidance, which accompanies many Safety Gate and national product warnings.

Kontekst prawny

Consumer protection in Poland is based on several key authorities and EU-aligned laws. The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate is responsible for food and supplement safety under national legislation and EU rules, including Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 on maximum residue levels for pesticides and specific measures on acrylamide in food. The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate acts under Pharmaceutical Law, issuing decisions such as “wycofanie z obrotu” (withdrawal from sale), “wstrzymanie w obrocie” (suspension) or bans on placing medicines on the market whenever health risks are identified.

UOKiK oversees the general safety of consumer products, including toys, electrical appliances and plastic goods, under the General Product Safety Act and the REACH Regulation (EC No 1907/2006), which limits the use of substances such as cadmium and phthalates like DEHP. Through the Safety Gate and RASFF platforms, information on dangerous products is rapidly shared across the EU, enabling coordinated action. Consumers are entitled to return unsafe goods, request a refund or replacement and, where damage occurs, seek compensation. Closely following GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK product warnings is an effective way for households to minimise exposure to hazardous products in everyday life.
