Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

Listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes is a rare but serious disease. The bacterium survives freezing, and infection causes fever, muscle pain, nausea and diarrhoea. In pregnant women it can lead to miscarriage or foetal infection, while in the elderly and immunocompromised people it may cause sepsis or meningitis. Lead accumulates in the body and damages the nervous system, particularly in children, affecting cognitive development. Swallowed strong magnets can attract each other across intestinal walls, leading to necrosis, perforation and peritonitis, often requiring surgery. Tetrahydrocannabinol acts psychoactively: it causes drowsiness, confusion, rapid heart rate and anxiety, and in children may cause profound respiratory depression. Particles in an intravenous solution may form blockages in blood vessels, while glass fragments in food pose a risk of injury to the mucous membranes of the digestive tract. Pesticide residues require dose assessment and evaluation of long-term exposure, while primary aromatic amines migrating from food-contact materials may have toxic and carcinogenic effects.

This week, four retail chains appeared in the notices. Carrefour (BIO SUPER burger, withdrawal notice) and Selgros (Arla Protein Pudding, withdrawal notice) are covered by withdrawals from the market. TEDi (jewellery, UOKiK notice) and KiK (kitchen utensil set, RASFF notification) appear only in information notifications and do not indicate a withdrawal. In addition, GIF issued one withdrawal decision concerning Mitomycin Accord, and the Safety Gate system registered three withdrawals of non-food products. Consumers should check the receipt, packaging and batch number, and in case of doubt contact the store staff or a medical facility.

The food withdrawal procedure is governed by Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 (Article 19), which requires operators to immediately withdraw an unsafe batch and notify the authorities. General product safety for consumer goods is set by Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR), and the Safety Gate system serves to exchange information between Member States. Medicinal products are subject to the Pharmaceutical Law, and decisions are issued by GIF. Machinery such as lifts must comply with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and standard EN 1494, and protective vests with standard EN 17353.
