Dried apricots
In samples of dried apricots, specific DNA of verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) was detected in 25 g of product, indicating possible contamination with this pathogen and a potential health risk. Potential effects: severe diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal pain, vomiting, dehydration, and in some cases (especially in children and the elderly) haemolytic uraemic syndrome and kidney failure.
