GIS alerts and GIF notices: listeria, nitrosamines, unsafe cables and cosmetics. See the full list and check if these products are in your home today

During the period 20–26 July 2026 the Polish market surveillance authorities published 23 alerts covering food, medicines and other consumer products. According to notices from the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS), the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF) and information released by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) via the EU Safety Gate system, several of these alerts involve serious health risks – from listeriosis in meat products and excessive exposure to nitrosamines in medicines, to electric shock hazards from faulty extension leads.

The week saw 11 actual withdrawals of food, cosmetics and consumer products from the market, and 12 GIF notices on medicinal products, including bans on placing certain batches on the market and withdrawals of others. GIS alerts focus on food safety and contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, GIF notices on excessive levels of N-nitroso-bisoprolol and incorrect doses in inhalation medicines, while UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications concern unsafe extension leads, lighting fittings, heat-resistant gloves and perfumes. It is crucial for consumers to follow GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings, as they directly affect food safety and the safe use of everyday products.

Key points

  • GIS advises against consuming Polska Gościna sliced ham (batch 1000-188) and Madej Wróbel raw mett sausages (batch 1R808070707) due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
  • KOKOS crunchy flakes LEO good foods sold at Rossmann contain excessive sulphur dioxide derivatives and an incorrectly labelled allergen, posing a risk to sulphite-sensitive consumers.
  • Arizona Original Green Tea with Honey drinks sold at Auchan show serious organoleptic irregularities that may indicate contamination.
  • GIF notices concern multiple batches of Concor and Concor Cor 5 mg (bisoprolol) tablets contaminated with N-nitroso-bisoprolol (NBP), as well as inhalation medicines Bromiduo and Atrodil Combo with an excessive delivered dose.
  • UOKiK warns against using certain extension leads, lamps and Big Jeff grill gloves, which do not provide the required protection against electric shock or burns.

GIS warns against consuming Polska Gościna ham from batch 1000-188 due to confirmed Listeria monocytogenes contamination. GIF reports that Concor Cor 5 batches exceed the specification limit for the potentially carcinogenic impurity N-nitroso-bisoprolol. UOKiK warns that unsafe extension leads without protective shutters may lead to electric shock.

Analiza zagrożeń zdrowotnych

This week’s GIS alerts highlight how critical food safety is for ready-to-eat meat products. Listeria monocytogenes, detected in Polska Gościna ham and Madej Wróbel raw mett sausages, can grow even at refrigeration temperatures. In healthy adults, listeriosis often presents as severe food poisoning (fever, diarrhoea, muscle aches), but in pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and immunocompromised people it may lead to sepsis, meningitis, miscarriage or death.

The second major risk group concerns medicines covered by GIF notices. Nitrosamines, including N-nitroso-bisoprolol found above the allowed limit in Concor and Concor Cor 5 mg tablets, are classified as substances with a probable or possible carcinogenic potential. The concern is not a single dose but cumulative exposure over many years in patients treated chronically for hypertension or heart failure. In contrast, the excessive dose mass in inhalation medicines Bromiduo and Atrodil Combo may cause overdose symptoms of fenoterol, such as palpitations, arrhythmias, tremor and anxiety, which are particularly dangerous in cardiac patients.

Allergens are another important topic. The excessive level of sulphur dioxide derivatives in LEO good foods coconut flakes, combined with the lack of proper allergen highlighting on the label, exposes sulphite-sensitive consumers to dyspnoea, urticaria, bronchospasm and, in extreme cases, anaphylactic shock. Similarly, Luxure Parfumes with undeclared benzyl alcohol may trigger contact skin allergy in sensitised users.

Consumer products covered by UOKiK warnings – extension leads lacking adequate safety features and a lighting fitting with insufficient insulation – increase the risk of electric shock and fire. Faulty Big Jeff gloves, despite claims of high heat resistance, can create a false sense of security and result in serious burns.

The retail chains affected this week include Carrefour (Polska Gościna ham), Rossmann (LEO good foods coconut flakes), Action (Big Jeff grill gloves) and Auchan (Arizona Original Green Tea with Honey). Other products, especially electrical items and cosmetics, were mainly reported via the EU Safety Gate system coordinated in Poland by UOKiK.

Food safety is overseen by GIS, which publishes alerts with detailed batch numbers and consumer guidance. Medicinal products are supervised by GIF, which issues notices on suspensions, withdrawals and marketing prohibitions for specific series. For non-food consumer products, UOKiK plays the key role, publishing UOKiK warnings and communicating Safety Gate notifications to consumers and businesses. Consumers should check the official websites of these authorities and pay attention to in-store notices.

Porady dla konsumentów

Anyone who may have products covered by the above GIS alerts, GIF notices or UOKiK warnings at home should first check the batch number, expiry date and EAN code on the packaging. For food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (ham, mett sausages) or with excessive allergen levels, the rule is: do not taste, do not consume, and prevent accidental use by others.

  • Recalled food products can usually be returned to the store where they were purchased; retailers often accept returns without a receipt.
  • If you experience symptoms of food poisoning, allergic reaction or breathing difficulties after consuming a listed product, contact a doctor or emergency department and inform them about the potential exposure.
  • Patients taking Concor or Concor Cor 5 mg, Bromiduo or Atrodil Combo should consult their doctor or pharmacist with the batch number of their medicine; treatment should not be stopped without medical advice.
  • Unsafe extension leads, lamps and protective gloves should be taken out of use immediately. Retailers usually offer replacement or refunds for products subject to an official recall.

To improve food safety at home, consumers should regularly review items in the fridge and freezer, comparing batch numbers with those mentioned in recent alerts. It is also important to pay attention to correct allergen labelling: missing or unclear highlighting of allergens should be treated as a warning sign, especially by allergy sufferers.

Kontekst prawny

The publication of GIS alerts, GIF notices and UOKiK warnings is based on EU and national legislation. In the area of food safety, key instruments include EU regulations on food hygiene and the RASFF system, which enables rapid information exchange between Member States. When a product poses a health risk, GIS can require the producer or distributor to withdraw it from the market and to inform consumers.

For medicines, GIF acts under the Polish Pharmaceutical Law. Decisions such as “suspension”, “marketing prohibition” and “withdrawal from market” apply to specific batches and are published as official GIF communications. Consumers are entitled to free replacement of affected medicines or a refund if their batch has been withdrawn. For consumer products, UOKiK, acting under the General Product Safety rules, may order dangerous products to be removed from the market and require clear warnings to be provided to customers.
