Introduction
In the period 03.08.2026 - 09.08.2026, Polish and EU supervisory authorities published 11 alerts concerning the safety of products available on the Polish market. These included GIS alerts related to food safety (teas and a ready-to-drink tea beverage), GIF communications on a medicine used in severe heart failure, as well as UOKiK warnings and Safety Gate notifications on toys, children’s backpacks, kitchenware, power tool accessories and passenger cars. The most serious issues this week involve defective climbing gear, a contaminated infusion medicine and teas with excessive pesticide residues, all of which pose a direct risk to users’ health or life.
According to GIS communications, food safety was questioned for a popular loose green tea and for a bottled green tea drink. As UOKiK and the EU Safety Gate system report, dangerous toys, toy slime with excessive boron, a children’s backpack with high formaldehyde content, as well as defective WOK pans and a brush-knife holder for lawn trimmers have also appeared on the market. GIF communications underline that even a single batch of an infusion medicine containing visible particles requires an immediate regulatory reaction. All of these alerts are essential for consumers who care about the safety of food, medicines and everyday consumer products.

Health risk analysis
The alerts published this week cover a wide range of hazards: mechanical failures, chemical risks and particulate contamination in medicines. Intravenous medicines must meet very strict quality specifications, and any deviation requires immediate removal of the affected batch from therapeutic use.
Children’s products (Bigtoys slime, Sinsay toy, KIDODIDO backpack, Peppa Pig toy set) combine chemical and mechanical hazards. Excessive boron migration from slime can harm the reproductive system, while formaldehyde in textiles can cause strong skin allergies and is classified as a carcinogen. Toys that easily break into small pieces pose a choking risk, especially for children under three years of age. Consumers who may have any of the products described above should first verify the product name, batch number, best-before date, EAN code and manufacturer details. For food products covered by GIS alerts (Loyd Tea and the Arizona drink), it is essential to stop consuming them immediately, even if the product seems normal. For the sake of food safety, the best option is to return the item to the point of purchase, referring to the relevant GIS alert. Retailers are generally required to accept such returns and, in many cases, will refund the purchase price even without a receipt.
With regard to medicines, in line with GIF communications, patients should not interrupt therapy on their own but must promptly contact their treating physician or pharmacist if they suspect they hold an affected batch. Questioned medicines should be brought back to a pharmacy, which will send them for safe disposal. Climbing gear, toys, backpacks, pans or blade holders should no longer be used. For sports equipment and cars (Decathlon, Hyundai), it is worth checking the manufacturers’ websites for details of free replacement or repair programmes.
If a product has already been used and worrying symptoms occur (for example, abdominal pain after drinking tea, skin reactions after contact with a backpack or toy, shortness of breath or chest pain after administration of a medicine), medical advice should be sought and the possible link to a product covered by an alert should be mentioned. In case of severe symptoms, emergency services should be called. Consumers can also report adverse incidents to GIS, GIF or UOKiK, which helps authorities monitor market safety and adjust future GIS alerts, GIF communications and UOKiK warnings.
