Understanding Food Safety Hazards
Food safety hazards fall into several categories: biological (bacteria like Salmonella, Listeria, E.coli), chemical (pesticides, heavy metals, toxins), and physical (foreign objects). GIS (Chief Sanitary Inspector) monitors food products in Poland and issues alerts when contamination is detected.
Salmonella
Salmonella is one of the most common causes of food poisoning. It is often found in raw eggs, poultry, and meat. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Most people recover without treatment, but it can be serious for young children, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Listeria
Listeria monocytogenes can grow even at refrigerator temperatures. It is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. It is commonly found in ready-to-eat foods, soft cheeses, and deli meats.
